Deepak Bagla is a distinguished professional who has been in the industry for more than 30 years. He began his career at the World Bank in Washington DC and later joined the Citibank Global Corporate and Investment Banking team in 1989. During his tenure at Citibank, he held various positions across Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. In 2007, he ventured into private equity and established an India-focused fund for core infrastructure.
Currently, Mr. Bagla serves as the Managing Director and CEO of Invest India, a National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency that is backed by the Indian Government. Invest India is responsible for executing the Indian government's Startup initiative. Mr. Bagla is also a member of the Venture Capital Investment Committee of the US $1. billion "Fund of Funds for Start-ups" established under the Prime Minister's Startup India action plan.
He is a special invitee to the official Bilateral CEO's Forum and is a member of the Ministry of Finance steering Committee on Fintech. Additionally, he is also a member of the High-Level committee of the Atal Innovation Mission, which is responsible for establishing and scaling up incubators and tinkering labs across India.
Mr. Bagla has previously served as a special invitee to the Government of India's "High-Level Committee on Financing Infrastructure" from 2011 to 2013. He was also a member of the Banking & Finance Committee of the Bureau of Indian Standards (ISO affiliate 2005-06) and a member of the committee established by the Government to recommend corporate governance norms for independent directors (2006). In 2008-2009, he was elected as the President of Delhi Management Association.
Mr. Bagla holds a Bachelor's degree with Honors in Economics from St Stephens College, New Delhi, and a dual Masters in International Diplomacy and International Trade and Finance from The School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
